Roy is 63 years old and graduated in 1969 from Michigan State University with a degree in marketing. He is the President of Integrated Lodging Services a real estate brokerage, management and development company.Prior to this he spent the bulk of his career developing an accounting practice. This was sold to the Anderson & Larkin, C.P.A. Firm in 1984.
Prior to selling his accounting practice, Roy had done a substantial amount of work as an investor in apartment complexes, both with his accounting clients and through his own personal investments. The first motel acquisition was the Austin, Minnesota Super 8 Motel, which was done in 1985. He has had a great deal of experience in organizing limited partnerships, general partnerships, and recently limited liability corporations to acquire and own motels and commercial buildings. As the sole owner of Integrated Lodging Services, he has had a great deal of experience in managing motels, acquiring property, and motel development.
Roy's office is in Urbandale, Iowa, and he and his wife, Sandy, live in Urbandale, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines. They have five children and ten grandchildren.
